20 Questions With...

I always say in Perth (and in my home state of Tasmania - don't hold it against me!) that there are 4 degrees of separation (its never six, it's usually always less than that for me!) and Anita was no different - in fact, I had originally known her in the Airbnb hosting community and her incredible airbnbs down south in Cowaramup called in "Heartland" which is also a Wedding Venue option for those looking for a place down south, but Anita goes way back with one of my good friends - would you believe I only found this out last week?

Anita is the Celebrant being Yes I Do Weddings, covering weddings from Perth to Margaret River and places in between; she is your go-to gal for weddings big and small. She is known for her modern and light hearted wedding ceremonies.

I hope you enjoy her answers and much as I do and a big thank you to Anita for taking the time out to make this blog possible. You can find her here on Instagram, or here on Facebook.

Who knows you the best?

My husband -- we bonded very quickly over a shared sense of adventure and a willingness to make every day different to the one before. 15 years later and we are still dreaming big!

What makes you cringe?

Fingernails down a blackboard. (Is that even a thing anymore?!)

What's the most interesting thing you can see out of your office or kitchen window?

A massive salmon gum that must be 20-storeys high. It is home to rainbow lorikeets that sing every day as twilight approaches. It brings me huge joy to be near it, especially as I'm living in the city. Being this close to nature is something so nourishing, it's invaluable.

Are you an introvert or an extrovert?

I'm a blend -- I am naturally curious about my world, so ask a lot of questions and talk a lot to strangers. This is probably handy given my job as a Celebrant -- public speaking would be a nightmare otherwise!

But I'm also happy with my own company, and sometimes the best days are those spent at home with my indoor plants and Burmese cat. Or movie-marathoning with my daughter with popcorn and chocolate. So good!

Is there anything you wished would come back into fashion?

Peddle pushers -- they were so easy to wear!

Does your family have a “motto” – spoken or unspoken?

We do! It's a long one, so brace yourself:

Always tell the truth;

Use kind words;

Promote harmony and happiness;

Care for one another;

Pitch in, help out, pick stuff up!

Say please and thank you;

Do your best,

and Try new things.

Do you collect anything?

Indoor plants that I love propagating to make personal gifts for friends. I also love collecting anything colorful and kitschy. My husband isn't a fan though, so anything quirky usually goes straight into my Glampavan -- a pimped-up caravan that I have on AirBnB (in Cowaramup). It's an immersion into boho vibes with lots of colour and art. So fun!

What's the most unusual thing you've ever eaten?

Grasshoppers -- a delicacy in Japan! Just couldn't come to terms with swallowing their crunchy little legs.

What's your favorite movie?

Back in the days of VHS and limited TV channels, we had a copy of "Galaxy Quest" get stuck in the VCR. So if there was nothing on TV, we had no option but to watch this movie. It was lucky we never got bored with it, and can pretty well quote it line for line now!

Name your favourite bar in Perth

I recently discovered Lucky Chan's Laundry and Noodle Bar in Northbridge. The decor is super kitsch (so of course I love it!), and the rooftop bar has an eclectic vibe that is an instagrammer's dream. Otherwise I don't have a favourite -- I prefer to try new places.

If you could share a meal with any 4 individuals, living or dead, who would they be?

My 2-year-old grandson is in Victoria, and due to travel restrictions and my busy wedding season, I've been unable to get there to see them.

So if I could wave a wand, I'd magic my son and his wife and my cheeky little Ray over to Perth and cuddle them for hours.

We might get to eat dinner, but there are no guarantees I'd let them go long enough to hold a fork.

Aside from necessities, what one thing could you not go a day without?

The international food choices in Victoria Park. We go out at least twice a week!

List two of your ultimate pet peeves

People that dawdle along a highway at 80kph, then speed up in dual-carriage lanes. I just don't understand their thinking. And... hmmmm.... trolls. There's just never a need to be nasty. Just be kind!

What's an old wives tale that you swear by?

My mother-in-law says that if you ever get gifted knives or scissors (any cutting implement), make sure you give that person something back, even if it's just 10 cents. Otherwise, the relationship will be "cut". The two-way exchange will ensure it stays intact.

At the end of the day, any situation is about energy exchange, whether it's money, time, resources, skills, advice ... exchanging energy is a sign of respect, and a form of validation for all parties involved.

What makes you laugh the most?

TikTok. Oh my God. I have nearly wet my pants at some of the skits on the there. Many times I've slipped down a TikTok rabbithole and don't emerge for hours later! (I'm on there as @AnitaGoSomewhere if anyone reading this is too?! Let's connect!)

What is one thing you will never do again?

Use Groupon or other coupon services. I've not had many good experiences -- the services provided have been diluted, or the quality of the products is not great (if they turn up at all).

What's your favourite wedding venue In Perth?

There are so many fabulous venues I'm reluctant to choose a favourite. They all offer different things for different themes too, so it would depend on the style of wedding.

Quirky-wise, I love that the crew at Social Manna in Victoria Park will let me marry couples in front of their mural. Like me, they love love, so are open to making it a great experience for couples.

What's the weirdest thing someone has done in your home?

Peed in the corner of my bedroom -- they were sleep-walking and thought they were in the bathroom. That was many many years ago (and many houses ago too!)

Do you love or hate rollercoasters? Which one is your favourite so far?

I can take them or leave them, but my daughter loves them so I have to ride them occasionally. Of the ones we've ridden, Space Mountain at Disneyland is epic fun. And the one on top of the New York hotel in Las Vegas -- so funny to be flying around the roofscape like that!
